About Madison

Michael Clayton of Remax Madison serves all of the Madison and surrounding area.  The city of Madison, located in Madison and part in Limestone County and is one of the fastest grtowing cities in the southeastern United States. From around 4000 in 1980, the city has grown to around 43,000 in the 2010 census. It also has one of the highest per capita incomes in the state. This population growth has also resulted in the rapid growth of retail and other businesses. Madison offers small town advantages within a growing metropolitan region. Over 400 businesses call Madison home with the largest employers being Intergraph Corporation, STI Electronics, and Tyonek.

Technology

As you fly into the Huntsville International airport over Madison one of the first things you might see is the towering Saturn V rocket! Huntsville which borders Madison to the east is known as the "rocket city" due to its significance in developing space technology since 1950. In addition to space technology Madison and Huntsville are also known for a significant footprint in the national defense industry. Both of these have resulted in enormous growth in technology. Education

The Madison City School System, ranked number three among the state´s top schools, offers a quality education through a large range of courses.? Bob Jones High School is within the top 5% in the nation.? Lots of additional educational opportunities are available which include distance learning, magnet schools, as well as those catering to the arts and culture.

History

Madison\'s first resident was John Cartwright, who settled in the area in 1818. The city was originally known as Madison Station, and grew up in the 1850s around a stop of the Memphis & Charleston Railroad. Madison was the site of a battle in the American Civil War on March 16, 1864, when Col. Josiah Patterson\'s 5th Alabama Cavalry, supported by Col. James H. Stuart\'s cavalry battalion and a section of horse artillery, drove Col. Adam G. Gorgas\'s 13th Illinois Infantry Regiment from the city. Patterson\'s men captured the 13th Illinois Regiments wagon train, taking 66 prisoners. They also burned Union supplies and tore up the railroad tracks before retreating. Portions of the 5th Ohio Cavalry, the 59th Indiana Infantry and the 5th Iowa Infantry were sent in pursuit fom Huntsville and skirmished with Patterson\'s rear guard that evening at Fletcher\'s Ferry on the Tennessee River south of Madison. Alabama Constitution Village

Visit Alabama\\\'s birthplace by touring The Constitution Village. Explore Alabama\'s rich history and become a part of the 19th century as villagers dressed in period clothing take you through eight reconstructed Federal style buildings. Visit the actual site where forty-four delegates gathered to forge the way for Alabama\'s Statehood.

Burritt On the Mountain

To get a good picture of local history most visitors tour the Burritt on the Mountain regional history museum. This mansion was built on over 150 acres on top of the Monte Sano Mountain with a gorgeous view of a large portion of the city. Today it includes dozens of historical buildings brought in from all over the state.

Children can enjoy history at the hands-on Earlyworks Museum and life on the rails in 1800´s can be experienced at the Huntsville Historic Depot.

Madison is adjacent to Huntsville International Airport which is a major hub within the southeast.             Bridge Street Town Centre is located at the corner of Old Madison Pike and Research Park Boulevard in the heart of Cummings Research Park.   It features over 70 upscale shops and restaurants, the Westin Huntsville Hotel, and a 10-acre lake. The property also features a customer service center, 10-acre lake, carousel, fountains and lots of green open spaces.

          At Parkway Place Mall you can enjoy shopping, dining and fun for the entire family. It includes over 110 specialty stores and even a space with a Play Area for children.

         Madison Square Mall is one of the largest retail shopping complexes in northern Alabama. It includes over 120 stores, restaurants and 12 theater screens along with major department stores such as Dillard\'s, JCPenny and Sears.

Arts and Cultural

         16 Main Street is home to working artists in one of Madison Alabama\'s beautiful historic homes. Individual studios are available to each artist. Classes, concerts and art activities are available to the general public all during the year.

         Numerous other cultural activities can be enjoyed such as The Broadway Theatre League, Huntsville Ballet Company, Renaissance Theatre, and Merrimack Hall Performing Arts Center to name a few.

           Whatever your favorite season you will experience it here.  Madison is warm during summer when temperatures tend to be in the 70\'s and cold during winter when temperatures tend to be in the 40\'s.  The warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 89.40 degrees Fahrenheit, while the coldest month of the year is January with an average minimum temperature of 30.70 degrees Fahrenheit.

          Temperature variations between night and day tend to be moderate during summer with a difference that can reach 20 degrees Fahrenheit, and fairly limited during winter with an average difference of 19 degrees Fahrenheit.

          The annual average precipitation at Madison is 57.51 Inches. Rainfall in is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. The wettest month of the year is March with an average rainfall of 6.68 Inches.
